The Holidays are all about drama, yes. But does that mean women need to run out and invest in a new wardrobe? Good Day Chicago’s style expert Amy Tara Koch says NO WAY! You can create a big style statement by mixing and matching what you already own (or filling in your accessory blanks with some new holiday baubles). Translation? Toss the matchy-matchy mindset and pair your accessories in unconventional ways to create texture, add contrast and introduce color.
1. Mix vintage + new 2. Pair opposites for high drama 3. High/low is a recipe for high style. Think: H&M and Hermes!
Amy talking style, fashion and beauty with Lauren from A Mommy in the city at Getting Gorgeous
I had such a blast on the first leg of my BUMP IT UP STYLE SOLUTIONS tour! At GETTING GORGEOUS, my BUMP IT UP STYLE LOUNGE featuring BELLI SKINCARE, ISABELLA OLIVER, TIDE FREE & GENTLE and PISH POSH MOMMY was a huge hit!. A style expert, j’adore helping women to look and feel their best within the time constraints of a parents’ chaotic lifestyle. Not only did I get to “bump up” countless preggos, but I also had the opportunity to show busy mom bloggers my “five minute fixes” to looking longer and leaner. The trick? Some sartorial sleight of hand; creating a “uniform” of flattering basics and using strategically placed accessories to emphasize the features that you like. And, camouflage what you are not so fond of.
Here are some fab highlights and tweets from the premier BUMP IT UP STYLE LOUNGE
Amy styling Sierra Rix–a five-time mom to be
“One super fun highlight (did I really just say “super fun?”) was getting styled by Amy Tara Koch the brains behind Bump It Up – a guide to maternity fashion. Oh Amy, where were you 4 pregnancies ago?”
-Sierra, Actual Mom
Georgetown cupcakes and Belli samples
“There was no question what to pair with the mimosa…a Georgetown Cupcake, of course! I may or may not have had more than one. I’ll just say that they are like potato chips, and that is all I will say about that!”
-Sheila, Pieces of a Mom
Amy and Karla
“Amy Tara Koch, stylist and author of “Bump It Up” was in the house! She was transforming the countless “bumps” and “non-bumps” into fashionistas. She basically took my black button down, unbuttoned it to show some more skin, added a cardi and a skinny belt. Now why didn’t I think of that?”

Amy showing ladies how to look their best
“There was an awesome booth for Isabella Oliver Clothing. There was an amazing black sequin jacket that I drooled over while chatting it up with Amy Tara Koch. She has amazing style and even has a book but more importantly she keeps it real. She had an impromtu fashion 101 session with one of the invites as she walked by. I loved it!”
“My favorite experience of Getting Gorgeous was when I got to meet Amy Tara Koch who I interviewed on MomTrends in an article entitled “Winter Traveling Made Easy” a few months ago. Her fun and interactive display took components from her fabulous book Bump It Up and allowed Bloggers to sample cupcakes from Georgetown Cupcake, test out products from Belli ( reviews on their line soon), learn more the cutest diaper bags ever by Pishposh Mommy and get styled by Koch herself!…Koch also spoke to me about how maternity clothing doesn’t have to be all about wearing your typical spandex and gigantic shirts. It’s about finding pieces that aren’t too trendy and those that are diverse enough to be worn after the baby as well as to add fun jewelry – especially towards the end, as you get bigger. I loved her fun and energetic attitude that defiantly inspired me to kick it up a notch in the maternity wear department.”
“I spent most of my time in the Bump It Up lounge with Amy Tara Koch, author and stylist, who gave me her personal style tips for looking and feeling sexy while being pregnant. She showed me some great pieces from Isabella Oliver and Lia Sophia Jewelry. She also showed me some great (and stylish) diaper bag inserts from Pishposh Mommy, while I dined on the most amazing cupcakes from Georgetown Cupcake.”
I was thrilled when I got a call from Access Hollywood asking me to come in to the Los Angeles studio to style four celeb inspired lingerie look for Valentines’ Day. The task was to create looks for two pregnant women and two “civilians” based on the fashion sensibilities of Jennifer Aniston, Sofia Vergara, Natalie Portman and Mariah Carey. The hitch? I had two days to gather props, cast the models and pull it all together to tape with Billy Bush and Kit Hoover in studio. Thankfully, adrenaline is my bff and I work well under pressure. Where to find hotties (especially pregnant ones!) on the dime? My first call was to my pal Liza Elliott- Ramirez, le major duomo of Expecting Models, a modeling agency that has a stronghold over the maternity and mom market. Supplying A- List magazines and brands with talent, Liza scours the universe for exotic and gorgeous women so I knew that she would have the crème de la crème for my segment. Next, I designed the looks and reached out to my favorite lingerie brands- Eberjey, Soma, Blush, Frederick’s of Hollywood and Hanky Panky and maternity brands Belabumbum and Hot Milk. .Big trends? Bold pops of color, corsets, Girly polka dots/stripes,contrast of sheer with lace, kimono robes, lace detailing. As fashion is having a huge boudoir moment inspired by Dita Von Teese, films like Burlesque and celebrities (think Kardashians, Holly’s World and Kendra) who love to bare their bodies, lots of this lingerie can be layered as ready to wear! Then, on to accessoriesLingerie is sexy. But lingerie + maribou feather kitten heels +statement jewelry takes it to a whole new dimension.
Here is a behind-the scenes glimpse of my exciting ACCESS HOLLYWOOD SHOOT.
And, did I mention ALL of my sexy models are moms and moms to be? Thank you EXPECTING MODELS!!

LINGERIE BUYING TIPS:
❤Buy something that make you look and feel great. ❤There are levels of sexiness. There is something to be said for subtlety.Scanty is not always sexier. ❤Go for quality fabric that will wash well. You want things that feel good on the skin. not itchy. ❤Eczema is not particularly chic!
Sofia Vergara: THE SEXPOT
This look is Venus incarnate! Curvy, caliente and naughty with a capital N. Corset tops are huge in lingerie and ready-to-wear..I love that she can cover up with a blazer for her dinner date and head right to the bedroom. She can wear this out to the dinner party right into the bedroom w/ a cute blazer. Frederick’s Corset $34, Frederick’s satin kimono Robe $29, Frederick’s Heels $29. Jewelry by Lia Sophia.
She is demure and sexy but definitely restrained. With this stretchy/soft aqua lace chemise and panty from maternity brand Belabumbum, Natalie is using her belly as the ultimate accessory to make a sexy statement a la her Azzaro frock on the runway at SAG awards. The Frederick’s maribou slippers add a fabulous pinup girl quality to the look
The vibe is vixen and decidedly over the top! There is NO WAY pregnancy is getting in the way of her sauciness. I put her in HOT MILK’s Ever After collections (a brand known for translating sensuality for pregnancy created by two young moms from NZ) and topped it off with a Chinoiserie style robe from SOMA.
