Book tours sound glamorous. And, some parts are. But, the schlepping from one city to the next (carting te requisite 52 pounds of accessories), organizing shoots and appearing perky in the midst of mind altering exhaustion is rough. The best parts? Meeting new people and unearthing talent.
In LA, I met the fiercely feminine Lisa Kline (http://lisakline.com), purveyor of all things stylish and Liza who helms Expecting Models, an agency devoted to the most beautiful pregnant women in the world. Lactation goddess Cheryl Petran of The Pump Station (http://www.pumpstation.com) popped by and donated an incredible raffle item for the event.
It is always hard to discover groovy maternity wear so I was delighted to meet Julia Noik of Nuka Maternity (http://www.nukamaternity.com) who designs excellent basics.
At Anna Getty’s Pregnancy Awareness Month (http://www.pregnancyawareness.com) last Sunday, it was manna for moms-to-be. Arcona was on hand doing facials and I scored many new eco fab brands sans sulfates. I learned about Belly Buds, belly phones that play music or recorded message to your baby and sampled the heavenly new Luna bars to place on the tummy for newborns to a font of eco-fab brands were in the spotlight.
In Dallas, I met Abi Ferrin, an incredible eco-conscious designer who is the pioneer of the five-way dress. Mica May creates super chic May Books (http://www.maybooks.com)—custom journals with a tag line, “Life is too short for ugly notebooks.” Love it. I also met Rikki Ragland, the glamorous blog mistress of The Preppy Debutante (http://www.preppydebutante.com)
Next stop? San Francisco!
